deciding wat to do as a hobby?

Joesph Smithmyer: I guess it depends on what you define a hobby as. I would call a hobby something people do to take their minds off work and studying. If you are into the arts, why not try drawing, painting, or sculture. Hobbies to me are things I can do to relax and let the world go by. Fishing, gardening, collecting, antiques, woodworking . . .If its what you enjoy it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. If it helps you relax and fulfils some creative need then its good.I would opt for more hands on hobbies myself . . ....Show more

Darren Heling: If Finance is your major, you'd be better off picking up a hobby in something else. Employers these days, often seek well rounded individuals than someone who is so specialized they become inflexible.I was told by my girlfriend, who has a Masters in International Relations, works as an Intelligence Analyst, and takes part in the hiring process, that it's better to be well rounded. I am majoring in Security Manageme! nt and had considered a minor in Intelligence Studies or Emergency and Disaster Planning. She told me that they are too much alike; that I should major in Security Management and take elective courses from the other fields of interest. So now, on top of Security Management, I am taking courses in Emergency and Disaster Planning, Homeland Security, Intelligence Studies, and Explosive Ordinance Disposal. Instead of keeping the focus on one or two areas of study, I'll have a less knowledge but in more arenas. Where this helps is, terrorism/counter-terrorism and military studies are kind of a hobby of mine.I couldn't tell you about other areas of finance, but maybe seek out, distant cousins if you will, of finance and incorporate those into your studies as a hobby. Just like terrorism isn't directly related to my degree, there is still a distant connection.I hope I helped. If not, then I wish you well. I kind of lost my train of thought in the middle of this answer. Sorry....Sh! ow more

Long Woltjer: Oh just do it. You still have to ! enjoy your life! Plus, if finance doesn't work out you can be a Mortgage Broker and make over $100,000 a year like me!!!

Virgilio Echter: By hobby do you mean electives in school? I think that's what you're getting at. Hopefully my answer will be of some use.Having a range of knowledge will be beneficial to your career and to your life as a whole. If you are too focused on justthe one subject, you may start to feel like you're missing out on everything else. Also, many arts courses will help improve your communication and critical thinking skills which are integral for most careers. I would suggest taking something that you think you'll be able to enjoy without all of the added pressure that comes with courses surrounding your major....Show more
