Joesph Smithmyer: Platinum age? You mean before the Golden Age? Comics were for the lower classes. They were not necessarily for kids but adults who read them were not expected to have the time to follow these detailed plots and frankly, I think the old editors are right even if E. C. Segar, the genius who created popeye, was constantly getting slammed for his continuities and plots involving the manipulations of that grifter Castor Oyl (Olive's brother) until 1. Tarzan and 2. Buck Rogers proved that open-ended continuities could sell. I think frankly we have gone way too far the other way now.Little Nemo in Slumberland was a classic which was done by Windsor McCay -- a former circus artist who did GREAT comic strips and OBNOXIOUS political cartoons. His animation Gertie the Dinosaur was one of the first commercially successful characters and helped pave the way for Felix the Cat, Mickey Mouse and others. Mainstream culture did not regard comics highly but they were! n't as threatened by it because they were identified with kids and workers, not just with kids....Show more
Hyman Coren: Nah, no longer quite. Sorry, Darth. I do like a number of them, although, yet regularly, i'm merely no longer a comic book e book style of guy. Deadpool and the cousins from Bone are my favorites. likely Bone. maximum probable.
