Can a full grown green iguana just live around at home?

Emile Okafor: Theoretically, it could. I owned two, now only have one (died at 13years old). From personal experience, we let my iguana roan the house and sometimes the yard only under careful watch. They often will poop anywhere especially hard places to clean (under things) which will eventually stink terribly. They don't poo like bunnies and stuff they make mushy gross poo that is stinky and bad to clean. So would it run away when u open the door,,, no PROBLY not but will it wreck your house...most likely. Not to mention it's claws can easily accidentally rip apart linens and furniture when climbing...Show more

Jacques Teri: You can but it's very hard to iguana-proof an entire house or appartment. My two iguanas have one room to themselves, just because it was too hard to make sure every little wire, everything that could be damaged was up out of the way, and one of them even managed to climb my curtains and got stuck on the railings because he couldn't work out ! how to get back down. With the one room, I have one of those climbing frames for cats (but you do need to make sure there's no loose threads to get caught around a toe) and on two of the levels there are heat lamps for them to bask on. The rest of the room actually looks just like a vivarium, with the usual branches, plants and even a few hide boxes, and they seem to be perfectly happy with this.Hope this helps...Show more

Charis Deguzman: yes but you want to watch him or iguana prove your house so it does not get hurt

Helen Zafar: You have to make some adjustments to your home, but yes. http://www.anapsid.org/iguana/basking.html

Antonia Mogg: You can, but I wouldn't recommend it. You may have a basking spot, but you won't have the humidity that the iguana needs. You can iguana-proof your home and still have one get into trouble. It is much better to give them a large enclosure...both for safety and for the proper environmental conditions.
