Do authors get to choose...?

answers1:I own a publishing house so I'll answer this as we do things
....When any author submits a manuscript that we accept for publishing
we require them to give us a short bio of themselves but that is not
the info that we use on back covers etc. as we employ a professional
to write author bios, but we invariably use a photo that the author
provides us with themselves if a photograph is to be included, but not
all books have photos of the author, only those that wish them to be
there usually. We have a few good authors that never have their photos
appearing anywhere on their books for reasons of their own, but
usually it's because they use a pen name and wish to keep their lives
private.Having your photo appearing on your book is a bit like having
one appearing on the internet so your chances of keeping your privacy
goes down considerably if your work becomes popular, but after saying
that authors are not usually treated in the same way as pop stars or
movie stars and most people that will read your work don't really care
what the author looks like....Show more
answers2:The publisher will ask the author to provide a picture, and
also to write the back-cover bio blurb.
